Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter
Becoming a reserve firefighter takes some steps. It is not as easy as just showing up one day and getting a new pair of turnouts and helmet handed to you.
We have two starting positions for people that want experience in the fire service.
- Reserve Firefighter 1
- You need to be 18
- You need to have completed a Fire Academy and have your FF1 certificate.
- An EMT or Paramedic card is not needed to start, however you will see that most of our calls are medical in nature, so by that virtue, you need to have medical training to further your career. You will be required to become EMT certified by the end of the first year.
- You will need a current Healthcare Provider CPR card.
- You will need a clean driving record and to pass a background check.
2. Reserve Firefighter Trainee
- You need to be 18
- You do not need to have completed a Fire Academy. You will learn through on-the-job training, and throughout your time here you will work on completing your State Fire Marshall taskbook. Once you complete that you will be able to test for your FF1 certificate.
